New PFTCE Profile available now!

Our most current PFTCE newsletter is now available.  And it is full of great information you need to know – regarding comp time/flex time for “Thanksgiving Wednesday”, lunch and breaks, as well as candidate information for the up-coming election.

It’s Election Time Again

In these troubling times it is more important than ever that we elect education and labor friendly representatives.

Your state union affiliate AFT-Oregon has made recommendations for Oregon State Offices and US Senator and US House Representatives that have been mailed directly to your home*.  Please look at those recommendations as you are marking your ballot as well as other research tools you use in determining your vote.  AFT-Oregon has a thorough and rigorous process of written questionnaires and interviews.    Candidates are not recommended just because they are of a certain party, but because they support the values and interests of the union and working people.  The AFT-Oregon makes its recommendations based on resolutions passed at annual conventions.

There are plenty of opportunities to be part of the process by phone banking or canvassing, more information and dates are located here.  I’ll be at most of these events, please join me!!

-Louise Currin, PFTCE Political Education VP

Remember Ballots must be received by your county’s election office by Tuesday, November 2!!!!

*If you are not receiving publications from AFT or AFT-Oregon, PFTCE probably does not have a current address on file for you.  Please contact PFTCE at 503-236-3497 with that information.

Contract Update

After three LONG months of waiting, the contract re-opener that WE ratified on June 17th, was finally approved at the School Board meeting on September 13th. You will see a 2% COLA salary increase in your September 30th paycheck.  Because the contract date is July 1, 2010, you will receive retro pay for any time worked between July 1st and August 15th, which SHOULD be included in your October 30th check.

Pay schedules for 200s, 210s, and 260s will be merged as of July 1st, also.  For those of you eligible, you will receive a step effective December 16th, and those already at the top step will receive a longevity bonus in January.

Other good news–when you notice those first flakes of snow falling this winter, you needn’t panic about losing pay because the schools might close!  Pull out your sleds and your fur mukluks, and enjoy the weather!  We’ll get paid for up to five days for emergency closures!!

For details, please see the Contract Flyer PDF we have prepared.  Print some off and share them with your fellow Classified co-workers!
